Kayaking Costa Brava's Hidden Coves: What You Actually See Below the Cliffs

You get roundtrip transport from Barcelona, 2.5–3 hours kayaking and snorkeling in Costa Brava's coves with all equipment and a certified guide, lunch, insurance, and GoPro photos of the best moments. The small group size and fixed schedule mean you're on the water by mid-morning and back in the city by evening, with nothing to arrange except showing up able to swim.

8h

Step-by-step itinerary

Kayak and snorkel Costa Brava coast

  • Travel from Barcelona to Costa Brava
  • Arrive at S'Agaró beach
  • Leave belongings at San Pol beach
  • Pick up kayaks at San Pol beach
  • Kayak along Camino de Ronda coast
  • Snorkel in crystal clear waters
  • Enjoy lunch included in tour

The Experience

The van leaves Barcelona at a time that sounds early until you realize you're sitting in traffic on the ring road and the driver is checking his phone more than the road. But then the city falls away and you're on the coast, pulling into S'Agaró where the Camino de Ronda — that famous clifftop walk everyone photographs — suddenly makes sense because you're about to paddle directly underneath it. The beach is small, the water is actually that clear, and your guide (English-speaking, certified) is already laying out kayaks while you're still mentally adjusting to the fact that you're doing this today.

The kayak part takes 2.5 to 3 hours, and it's not a paddle-around-the bay situation. You're navigating into caves, past sea life, through coves that don't have names on any map because they're only accessible from the water. The equipment is all there — life jacket, paddle, the works — and if it's cooler months they hand you a wetsuit without making it weird. The snorkeling happens in the same stretch, so you're dropping in and out of the kayak, not doing two separate things. At some point your guide will have a GoPro and will catch you doing something that looked less awkward in your head, but that's the trade for having actual photos instead of just your phone's blurry underwater attempts.

Lunch comes after, which means you'll be hungry by then — they tell you to eat a proper breakfast beforehand, and they mean it. It's a fresh sandwich (chicken, chorizo, or cheese), and drinks aren't included so bring water or budget for a beer at the beach bar if you want one. There's free time built in to just sit, swim again if you want, or do nothing, which is the part most people don't expect to need but absolutely do. The van ride back to Barcelona is air-conditioned and takes the same route in reverse, except now you're tired and the city looks different when you're arriving instead of leaving.

One thing that matters: this is swimmers only. Not "comfortable in water" — actually able to swim. The kayaks won't take you if you can't, and there's no refund if you show up and realize you're not confident enough. Come in your swimwear under your clothes so you're not wrestling with a changing room queue before you start. Bring plenty of water, eat breakfast, and don't book this if your shoulders or back are already giving you trouble.

Top questions

Do I need to be an experienced kayaker?

No. The guides are certified and lead you through the route. You do need to be a confident swimmer — that's the only real requirement.

What's included in lunch?

A fresh sandwich (chicken, chorizo, or cheese). Drinks are not included; you can buy them at the beach bar or bring your own water.

How long is the kayaking part?

2.5 to 3 hours on the water, including snorkeling stops.

Is the equipment included?

Yes. Kayaks, paddles, life jackets, and optional wetsuits (cooler months) are all provided. Insurance is also included.

Is this suitable for children?

Minimum age is 7 years old, and they must be able to swim. Children wear life jackets and stay with the group.

What if I'm not a strong swimmer?

This tour is not suitable if you're not a confident swimmer. You won't be allowed on the kayaks, and there's no refund. Only book if you can swim well.

Do you take photos?

Yes. Your guide captures moments on GoPro during the activity, so you have photos without holding a camera the whole time.

What should I bring?

Swimwear (wear it under your clothes to save time), plenty of drinking water, and sunscreen. Eat a good breakfast beforehand since lunch comes after the activity.
