The experience

The morning begins at the V&A Waterfront, one of South Africa's busiest tourist destinations and the heart of Cape Town's working harbour. From there the tour heads south along the Atlantic Seaboard through Clifton and Camps Bay, where granite outcrops punctuate the Blue Flag beaches and the coastline holds some of the city's most striking homes. The ocean runs alongside the whole stretch, and the guide fills the drive with the geography and the people who shaped it.

Bo-Kaap comes next: the village of brightly painted homes and cobbled streets that was established in the 1760s by the Dutch East India Company to house enslaved workers from Malaysia and Indonesia.
