The Experience
The day starts at 9am with pickup from your Cape Town accommodation. Your guide drives you through the city center to see key monuments, then heads to Bo-Kaap—the Cape Malay Quarter—where the colorful houses carry historical weight and your guide explains what the colors mean. From there the route follows the Atlantic Seaboard, a coastal drive with mountains on one side and ocean on the other, passing through Three Anchor Bay, Bantry Bay, and Clifton before stopping at Maiden's Cove. This spot is known as the Kodak moment: you get a clear sight line to the Twelve Apostles, Table Mountain, Lion's Head, and Camps Bay beach all at once.
The route continues to Hout Bay, where you can choose between a 45-minute boat trip to Seal Island to see seals or time at the harbor market. From there you drive Chapman's Peak—one of the world's most scenic coastal roads—and stop at the viewpoint. An optional detour takes you to Noordhoek for coffee at Village Roast (your own cost), or to Cape Point Vineyards for wine tasting and lunch overlooking the ocean and vineyards. The toll fees for Chapman's Peak are already covered.
The core stops depend on which tour option you select at checkout. All routes include the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve, where you photograph the iconic Cape of Good Hope sign and see the Dias and Vasco da Gama monuments. From there you move to Cape Point, where you either hike 15 minutes or take the Flying Dutchman Funicular up to the lighthouse—this is where the cold Benguela Current from the Atlantic meets the warm Agulhas Current from the Indian Ocean. Boulders Beach comes next, home to roughly 2,500 breeding pairs of African Penguins; your guide takes you to the viewing boardwalk where penguins sometimes walk alongside you. On the return, you pass Muizenberg's colored beach huts, relics of 1800s bathing machines. Drop-off is back at your accommodation around 6pm.

Can I choose which stops to visit on this private tour?
Yes. The tour is customizable, so you can tailor the itinerary to include Bo-Kaap, the Atlantic Seaboard, Chapman's Peak, Cape Point, and Boulders Beach penguin colony based on your interests. Optional add-ons like the Seal Island boat trip and Cape Point Vineyards wine tasting are available depending on your tour option.
What's included in the price?
Hotel pickup and drop-off, a private vehicle, your personal guide, fuel, toll fees at Chapman's Peak, and bottled water onboard are included. Depending on which option you book, park entry fees to Cape of Good Hope and Boulders Beach penguin colony may or may not be covered; Seal Island boat trips are always optional and separate.
How long is the full tour?
The tour runs approximately 8 hours, starting at 9am with pickup and ending around 6pm at your accommodation.
What is Cape Point and how is it different from Cape of Good Hope?
Cape Point is the most south-western point of Africa, marked by a lighthouse you can reach by a 15-minute hike or funicular. It's where two ocean currents meet—the cold Benguela from the Atlantic and the warm Agulhas from the Indian Ocean. Cape of Good Hope is a separate nature reserve nearby with its own iconic signage and monuments; both are visited on the tour.
What should I bring or wear?
Comfortable walking shoes are recommended, as you'll walk to viewpoints and the penguin boardwalk. If you choose the optional Seal Island boat trip, bring a light jersey because temperatures drop at sea. The tour suits all fitness levels.
Are children welcome?
Yes, children from age 2 can join. Specialized infant seats are available, and infants and small children can ride in a pram or stroller. Children must be accompanied by an adult throughout the day.
