Step-by-step itinerary
Visit Viscri and Sighisoara

- Walk narrow streets and visit Clock Tower
- Take a break at old city terrace
- Return to Brasov
The experience
You start north from Brasov through Transylvania's hills toward Viscri, one of the best-kept secrets of the Saxon land. The village itself is a UNESCO monument: blue and pastel-colored houses cluster around a white fortified church that has survived centuries. Prince Charles bought a house here, and the place genuinely feels like time stopped in a different era. You walk the village with your guide, who explains the Saxon heritage and the architecture that makes it worth the detour from the main road.
The second half of the day takes you to Sighisoara, one of seven Saxon cities in Transylvania and also a UNESCO monument. The old citadel sits on a hilltop, barely touched by time. You explore the narrow streets and colorful houses, then climb to the top of the Clock Tower for views across the Old Town Square: an area protected by UNESCO. The Clock Tower itself is 300 years old, with statuettes that still mark the hours. Your guide walks you through the medieval architecture built by Saxon guilds in the 1100s, each tower named after the craftsmen who built it. Sighisoara is also known as the birthplace of Vlad the Impaler, a detail your guide will cover if you're interested in that history.
The tour runs eight to nine hours total, with a break built in so you can sit on one of the small terraces in the old city and take in the place at your own pace. Private transportation means no waiting for other groups, and the skip-the-line access gets you past the door queues at both sites. Your guide speaks English and travels with you the whole day in an air-conditioned vehicle.

Top questions
What exactly is Viscri, and why is it worth visiting?
Viscri is a UNESCO-protected Saxon village where blue-and-white houses and a fortified church have remained largely unchanged for centuries. The fortified church was built by Saxon settlers and has survived invasions and time itself. The village is so well-preserved that it feels like stepping into a different era, and it's remote enough that most tourists never find it.
What can I see and do in Sighisoara's old citadel?
Sighisoara's citadel is Europe's last inhabited medieval settlement. You walk cobbled streets and narrow paths lined with colorful Saxon houses, climb the Clock Tower for panoramic views, and explore the Old Town Square, which is protected by UNESCO. The towers throughout the citadel were built by different guilds in the 1100s and are named after their crafts. Your guide explains the medieval history and the role the Saxon people played in building Transylvania.
How much time do I spend actually walking versus traveling in the vehicle?
The full tour is eight to nine hours from Brasov. You spend the morning traveling to and exploring Viscri, then the afternoon in Sighisoara with a break on one of the terraces. Most of the day is split between the two villages. The drive between them and back to Brasov makes up the rest.
Do I need to buy tickets separately, or are they included?
Entry tickets to both Viscri and Sighisoara are not included in the tour price and must be purchased separately. Your guide will direct you to the ticket offices, and the skip-the-line access means you won't wait in queues once you have your tickets.
Is lunch included, and where do we eat?
Lunch is not included in the tour. You'll have a break in Sighisoara where you can eat at one of the small terraces in the old city, giving you time to choose a place that suits your taste and budget.
