The experience
Peles Castle opens the day: the 19th-century summer residence of the Romanian Royal Family, built in the foothills south of Brasov. From there the route moves to Bran Castle, the Gothic fortress that defended the border between Wallachia and Transylvania and was later transformed by Queen Mary into a second royal residence. The final stop is Rasnov Fortress, a Saxon-built stronghold designed to protect the surrounding area. Note that it is partially closed for renovation.
The private vehicle and guide handle the logistics: you avoid the traffic that builds at each site, get context for what you're standing in front of, and move through all three castles without the crowd delays of a shared tour. The guide speaks English or Romanian. Hotel pickup and drop-off are included, as is parking at each location. The day runs seven to nine hours depending on how long you spend at each castle.
Bring water and wear layers: the tour operates in all weather. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Infants sit on an adult's lap. The tour suits travelers with moderate fitness. Steep sections exist at some of the fortifications.
