Boat to two private islands and a coral reef 18 to 25 feet down

A five-hour catamaran tour from Puerto Rico to Icacos and Palomino islands with snorkeling at a nearby coral reef. The boat carries only your group, includes snorkeling equipment, floaters, lunch wraps, beer, water and soft drinks. Snorkeling is optional; the islands themselves are the main stop, and the reef visit follows if you choose it.

The Experience

The catamaran leaves for Icacos, the largest island in La Cordillera Nature Reserve off Puerto Rico's northeast tip, or for Palomino, a private island with white sand and turquoise water. Both are boat-only access, which is why the tour exists -- you cannot drive there, and the reserve protects them from casual foot traffic. The five-hour window gives you time on the island itself, time in the water, and time to eat without rushing back to the dock.

After the island stop, the boat heads to a nearby coral reef where snorkeling is optional. The reef sits 18 to 25 feet down, and the operator provides snorkeling equipment and floaters. If you skip the reef, you stay on the boat or in the shallows; the choice is yours once you are out there. Lunch is wraps or sandwiches, plus snacks, beer, water and soft drinks -- all included and served on board.

The boat is a catamaran, which means a wider, more stable platform than a single-hull boat; the operator notes it is a power catamaran, so the ride is faster and the schedule holds. This is a private tour, meaning only your group boards -- no strangers, no schedule changes to wait for other bookings. Service animals are allowed. Infants must sit on an adult's lap. The sea ladder to board is a consideration if you have serious knee problems.

Top questions

What are Icacos and Palomino islands like?

Icacos is the largest cay in La Cordillera Nature Reserve off Puerto Rico's northeast coast, known for clear water and protected status. Palomino is a private island with palm trees, white sand and turquoise water; both are accessible only by boat.

Is snorkeling required on this tour?

Snorkeling is optional. After the island visit, the boat goes to a nearby coral reef where you can snorkel at 18 to 25 feet depth with provided equipment and floaters, or stay on board if you prefer.

What food and drinks are included?

Lunch is wraps or sandwiches, plus snacks, beer, water and Sprite or Coke -- all included and served on the boat during the five-hour tour.

Will there be other groups on the boat?

No. This is a private tour, so only your group participates; the catamaran is reserved for you alone.

What should I know about getting on and off the boat?

The boat uses a sea ladder for boarding and exiting. If you have serious knee problems, this may be difficult; the operator notes it is not recommended for travelers with that condition.
