Sailing and Snorkeling in Fajardo: Catamaran Day Charter
Sail to island reefs and snorkel between swims and lunch
A five-hour catamaran sailing and snorkeling charter from Fajardo takes you to Piñeros or Palomino islands, where you snorkel secluded reefs, swim in open water, and eat a grilled barbecue lunch prepared on board. The boat departs at 9:00 am and returns by 2:00 pm; snorkeling gear is included, and the crew speaks English and Spanish. Children from age 4 are welcome.
The Experience
You board the Janise Lagoon 380 catamaran at Marina Puerto del Rey by 9:00 am and sail for an hour to reach the islands. The boat is set up for lounging—there's a trampoline on the deck where you can lie in the sun or nap between water activities. Once you arrive at the snorkeling site, the crew sets out the gear and points you toward the reefs. The spots are small and less crowded than the main tourist beaches, so the water stays clear and the fish stay put.
Snorkeling happens in two stretches with a break for lunch in between. As you work up an appetite in the water, the crew grills chicken and prepares yellow rice, salad, and fresh fruit on board. Lunch comes with beer, wine, sangria, and soft drinks. Between eating and swimming, there's also a floating lily pad—an inflatable platform you can climb onto and use as your own island in the middle of the sea. The whole day is built around moving between the water, the deck, and the food without rushing.
The charter returns to the marina by 2:00 pm. Note that unless you booked for six guests or paid extra for a private charter, you'll be sharing the boat with other small groups—the crew keeps numbers low so the experience doesn't feel crowded. A waiver form is required before arrival; the operator will email you a link to fill it out online, and minors' waivers are completed when you check in.
