The experience
The Janise is a comfortable catamaran built for the afternoon slot: you arrive at Puerto del Rey Marina by 2:30 pm, board by 3:00 pm, and spend the next three hours on the water. The route takes you around the Fajardo seashore and out to the smaller islands nearby. After a short sail, the crew drops anchor on the coastline in a spot calm enough to swim. You can take a refreshing dip in the ocean, stay aboard and relax on deck, or both. Assorted appetizers come out, and the bar runs cold sodas, water, beer, wine and sangria.
The anchor spot sits with Ramos Island as the backdrop, which is where you'll be when the sun starts to drop. A 15-minute sail brings you back to the marina by 6:00 pm. The crew speaks English and Spanish, and the boat welcomes children from age 4 (infants sit on an adult's lap). Bring comfortable clothes and leave shoes with black soles at home. If you're prone to seasickness, bring medication. Waivers are filled out online before you arrive, which speeds up check-in.
Is this one for you?The charter is shared by default, which keeps the cost down and brings together a small group of travelers on the same afternoon. Book it private if you want the boat to yourself for an engagement or a group event. The 3:00 pm departure works if your day in Fajardo starts elsewhere and you want to end on the water at sunset.
