The catamaran leaves Puerto del Rey marina in the morning, and you're on the water within minutes. If you booked hotel pickup, the driver collects you early enough to make the boarding time. Check your confirmation for the exact window. As the boat cuts across the Caribbean, you can see the mountains of El Yunque rising behind Fajardo's coastline, and the crew starts pouring drinks: piña coladas, rum punch, whatever you want from the bar. It's the kind of thing that feels like it shouldn't be this easy, but it is.
After about an hour, the catamaran anchors at Cayo Icacos, part of La Cordillera Keys Nature Reserve. The island is quiet: no resorts, no crowds, just sand and water. Snorkel gear is on board (masks, fins, floating belts), and the crew can walk you through it if you've never done it before. The reef is close enough that you're in the water within minutes, spotting rays, octopuses, and fish moving through coral.
