The experience

The tour leaves from your Ponta Delgada hotel or cruise ship and heads straight to the crater rim. As the Land Rover climbs onto the small dirt track that circles the crater, you get a view down into Sete Cidades itself: the volcanic bowl with its two crater lakes visible below. The vehicle stays on the rim, so the perspective stays high and the scale of the crater becomes clear as you move around it.
