The experience

The day starts with pickup at your hotel or apartment, then heads to Sintra: a UNESCO World Heritage site where Pena Palace sits on one of the mountain's highest points. The palace itself is a 19th-century romantic masterpiece with different architectural styles layered together, and your ticket is already arranged. After the palace, you walk the cobbled lanes of Sintra's town center, where local pastries and the weight of centuries in the stones slow the pace down. From there the route turns toward the coast: Guincho Beach in Cascais, known for wild dunes and rough water, is a natural stop for lunch if you want it (you arrange and pay for your own meal).
