The experience
The bus runs a single Belém route with multiple stops where you can get on, explore a neighborhood or landmark, and catch the next bus when you're ready. The route passes through Lisbon's grand avenues, Edward VII Park, Avenida da Liberdade, Restauradores Square and the Electricity Factory, each stop a chance to step off and wander. Audio guidance in 12 languages plays on board, so you hear about the architecture, local food and shopping without needing a separate guide for the bus itself.
Belém is where the route ends and the walking tour begins. If you're there Tuesday through Saturday, a guide in a yellow polo shirt and yellow umbrella leads a complimentary tour starting at 11:30 AM from Stop 10. The neighborhood holds Jerónimos Monastery, Belém Tower, the Coach Museum, Monument to the Discoveries and the Maritime Museum: all within walking distance of each other. The world-famous Pastéis de Belém (custard tarts) are sold nearby, a stop most visitors make before or after the tour.
The 24-hour ticket also gives you access to Carris public trams while it's valid, so you can hop between the bus route and the tram network. Discounts apply at restaurants, cafés, fado venues and shops across the city. Children from age 4 can ride. Infants sit on an adult's lap. The ticket does not include hotel pickup, so you'll need to make your own way to the first bus stop.
