The experience

The tour starts with hotel pickup and moves through Łazienki Park, the 76-hectare royal complex at the heart of Warsaw. From there, you walk the territory of the Jewish Ghetto, the largest in history, seeing the Umschlagplatz holding area, Mila 18 (the Jewish Combat Organization's bunker headquarters), and the sculptures and commemorations around the Polin Museum. The route then reaches Warsaw Old Town, where cobblestone streets and medieval buildings reconstructed after WWII frame the 14th-century St. John's Archcathedral and the restored Royal Castle.

The Warsaw Uprising Museum, opened in 2004 to mark the 60th anniversary of the 1944 uprising, holds hundreds of artifacts (weapons, letters, personal effects) that document the people and events of the resistance. You also pass the Palace of Culture and Science, Poland's tallest building at 237 metres, a Soviet gift from 1955 now a landmark of central Warsaw. The Vistula River promenade offers a stopping point for photos at the Mermaid monument, the symbol of the river and the city.

The tour includes the birthplace and museum of Maria Skłodowska-Curie, the first female Nobel Prize winner. Monuments to the Warsaw Uprising, erected only after 1989 when the uprising could finally be publicly commemorated, mark sites across the city where the resistance fought in 1944.

What is the Warsaw Uprising Museum, and what does it hold?

The Warsaw Uprising Museum in the Wola district documents the 1944 uprising against Nazi occupation. It houses hundreds of artifacts (weapons used by insurgents, love letters, and personal possessions) that tell the story of the Polish Underground State and the people who fought. The museum opened in 2004 and continues to collect testimonies from living participants.

What is Łazienki Park, and why is it included?

Łazienki Park is Warsaw's largest park at 76 hectares, occupying the city center on Ujazdów Avenue.
