The Experience
Fog clung to the hills as we wound up the road to Dalaguete before sunrise. The air up at Osmeña Peak felt cool—almost chilly for Cebu—and the trail was lined with wildflowers I’d never seen before. Our guide, Kuya Jun, pointed out the jagged peaks that locals call the “Chocolate Hills of Cebu.” From the top, you could spot Negros island on one side and Bohol on the other, unless clouds rolled in. We snapped photos with a bunch of hikers from Manila who shared their dried mangoes with us.
After the hike, we drove down to Badian for canyoneering. I’ll admit, my heart was pounding when we stood at the first jump—about 12 feet high—but Kuya Jun just grinned and counted us down. The water was cold and clear, and you could hear nothing but laughter and splashes echoing off the canyon walls. We slid down smooth rocks, floated under bamboo branches, and even spotted a tiny kingfisher darting past. By midday, we reached Kawasan Falls. The turquoise pool looked unreal—locals were selling fresh buko juice nearby, which tasted perfect after all that swimming.
