Step-by-step itinerary
Explore Paracas National Reserve highlights
- Visit Interpretation Center
- Stop at Red Beach viewpoint
- Walk on Red Beach at sunset
- See natural monument remains
- Enjoy Pacific Ocean scenic stop
The experience
The Interpretation Center is the first stop, where you learn the geology and wildlife of the reserve and the Ica region, including a nearby fossil deposit and a bird viewpoint. From there the route moves to Red Beach, a stretch of sand stained reddish by volcanic minerals: a place built for photographs. A high viewpoint nearby frames both the beach and the Istmo in a single view.
You walk a short section of beach during the sunset hours, then visit a natural monument that survived the 2007 earthquake largely intact. The final stop is positioned to take in the Pacific, the surrounding landscape and the light at that hour. A professional local driver guides the whole route and handles the vehicle. You set the pace at each viewpoint and decide how long to linger. The Julio C. Tello Museum, which holds artifacts from the ancient Paracas culture, is included in the tour. Entry tickets are already paid.
Soda and pop are provided during the drive. The tour suits all fitness levels, though the Red Beach walk and viewpoint stops involve some standing and walking on uneven ground.
