The Experience

I didn’t expect the air to smell so much like salt and engine oil when we stepped off the ship at San Martín Port. We’d barely rubbed the sleep from our eyes before someone from the team waved us over—no searching for signs or confusion, just a quick “Hola, follow me!” and we were off. The drive to Paracas was short enough that I still felt half-dreaming, but then you see that dry, endless coastline and it’s like nowhere else. The Ballestas Islands tour is what everyone talks about, but it’s different when you’re actually on that little speedboat bouncing over chilly water.
