The experience

You arrive at the meeting point and get fitted with a helmet and protective pads before heading out on your own ATV. The guide leads the group through Paracas National Reserve, a protected coastal area on Peru's south coast where desert meets the Pacific. You control the machine yourself, not watching from a passenger seat, and follow the guide's route across terrain that shifts between sandy stretches and rocky ground. The two-hour ride covers the reserve's main landmarks without the rush of a longer expedition.

Each stop gives you time to stand still and take in what you're standing in front of. The cathedral viewpoint overlooks rock formations that rise from the water; Yumaque Beach opens onto sand and coves; the isthmus narrows the peninsula down to a thin strip of land; Playa Roja (Red Beach) gets its name from the iron oxide in the sand and stone. You frame shots and linger without the guide moving the group along. The ride itself is the main event. The stops are the punctuation.

The guide speaks English or Spanish and stays with the group throughout. Pickup from your hotel is included, so you don't arrange transport to the meeting point. Children from age 17 are welcome on the ride.
