Step-by-step itinerary

Winery tour and tasting experience

  • Meet traditional Ica family
  • Learn pisco heritage and history
  • Taste pisco, wine, and pisco cream
  • Tour Vista Alegre winery
  • Discover pisco and wine production
  • Enjoy wine and pisco tasting

The experience

The tour starts at a family-run artisanal bodega where members of a traditional Ica family walk you through their generations-long commitment to pisco-making. They share the history and techniques passed down through their household while you taste pisco, wine and pisco cream. Each one made by hand with the methods they've kept alive. This is not a factory visit. It's a direct conversation with the people who do the work, in the space where they do it.

From there you move to Vista Alegre, one of Ica's most established wineries, where the tour covers how pisco and wine are actually produced: the steps, the timing, the craft that turns grapes into the finished bottles. You taste a special drink during the walkthrough, then sit down to an exquisite tasting of wines and piscos that represent what the winery has built over decades. The whole experience runs two hours from pickup to drop-off.

Top questions

What languages is the tour guided in?

Live guide in English and Spanish.

What happens if it rains?

It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.

What exactly is pisco and why is it important in Ica?

Pisco is a brandy distilled from grapes, and it's the emblematic spirit of Peru's south coast. Ica is the heart of pisco production, and the families and wineries here have refined the process over generations. On this tour, you learn that history directly from the producers.

Do I need to know anything about wine or pisco before I go?

No. The guide explains the production process and the differences between the drinks as you taste them. The tour is built for people tasting pisco for the first time and for those who already know it.

How much walking is involved at each winery?

The family bodega and Vista Alegre are both compact operations where you move through production areas and tasting rooms on a guided path. There's no hiking or strenuous walking. The pace is leisurely and you spend most of the time standing, tasting and listening.

What's included in the tasting, and how much do I actually drink?

You taste pisco, wine and pisco cream at the artisanal bodega, then wines and piscos at Vista Alegre. The portions are small (enough to experience the flavor and learn the differences) not full glasses. All tastings and entrance to both wineries are included in the price.
