The experience
The day starts at the oldest distillery in the Americas, where you walk the boulevard of eight pisco strains before entering the original facilities from 1684. You see the wine presses, the falcas (traditional storage vessels), and then move through the current distillery, considered the most modern in the country. The tasting follows: pisco in each of its varieties, so you taste the range of what the region produces.
Next is Tacama Vineyard, established in 1540 by winemaker Francisco de Carabantes and the first vineyard in Peru. You tour the classic winery and its modern facilities, learning how wine and pisco are made, then taste each of its iconic beverages. If Tacama is closed on Mondays, the operator substitutes a winery of similar quality. A third stop introduces artisanal pisco production and local specialties: macerated pisco and pisco creams made by smaller producers.
Private transport picks you up from your hotel in an air-conditioned vehicle. The guide speaks English or Spanish and travels with you throughout. You receive a welcome chilcano, a traditional pisco cocktail, at La Caravedo to start the tastings. Lunch is available as an add-on at checkout, as are optional tourist tickets at either Tacama or La Caravedo if you want a deeper dive into one site.
