The experience
The day starts at Hacienda Tacama, South America's oldest estate, where you taste pisco and wines while learning how both industrial and artisanal production methods shape the flavor. On Mondays, the visit shifts to Hacienda Vista Alegre, which follows the same tasting format but with different history. After the hacienda, you move to Fundo El Arrabal to explore the "Cultur Pisco" program: you learn how pisco is made, walk through groves of pecan trees and other crops unique to the region, and have time to rest before the afternoon's main event. The estate has a traditional restaurant if you want lunch before heading out.
At 4:00 PM (or 4:30 PM during summer and autumn when the sun sets later), you climb a small dune to board the buggies. Your guide explains what you need to know and stays with you throughout. The ride lasts two hours across the natural landscape of Huacachina's dunes, described as a natural roller coaster, and you'll have time to photograph the sunset. After the buggy portion, you move to sandboarding on various dunes. The guide teaches proper technique and supervises multiple runs so the activity stays safe. On public holidays and long weekends, the buggy portion adjusts to one hour due to demand, though the full experience still covers the same ground.
Pickup is included, and the guide speaks English or Spanish. You can buy protective gear at Fundo El Arrabal if you want it (optional). Infants can ride in a stroller or sit on an adult's lap, and the activity suits all fitness levels.
