ATV Riding in Huacachina: Pisco Wine & Buggy Tour from Ica
Pisco tastings happen before you hit the dunes, not after.
A five to six hour tour from Ica combines visits to two working vineyards (Hacienda Tacama and El Arrabal) with buggy rides and sandboarding on the dunes surrounding Huacachina Oasis. You taste pisco and wine at each estate, eat lunch at a restaurant on the El Arrabal grounds (at your own cost), then spend the afternoon driving and boarding across the sand. A live guide in English or Spanish leads the group. Pickup from Ica is included.

The experience
The tour starts at Hacienda Tacama, the oldest winery in South America, where you taste the vineyard's pisco, wine and sparkling wines. On Mondays when Tacama closes, the operator substitutes Hacienda Vista Alegre, which operates the same way. From there you move to El Arrabal, a second estate surrounded by fruit trees and horses, where you learn the history of pisco production and taste the vineyard's artisanal offerings. A restaurant sits on the El Arrabal property. Most groups eat lunch there before heading to the dunes, though food costs are separate.
The afternoon shifts to Huacachina Oasis, where the dunes that ring the lagoon are the actual terrain. You ride in a buggy across the sand: the standard ride runs two hours on regular days, though it shortens to about one hour on Peruvian public holidays. Sandboarding equipment is provided, and you can try the sport on the same dunes. The full day ends with a sunset view over the desert.
