Step-by-step itinerary
UTV desert tour and sandboarding

- Drive UTV into the desert
- Visit Huacachina oasis viewpoint
- Enjoy sandboarding on dunes
- Photograph desert from dune top
- Toast with sparkling wine and snacks
- Return to operator's office
The experience
You start at the operator's office at Huacachina's entrance, board a modern UTV designed for the terrain, and head straight into the desert with a professional driver trained in off-road driving and first aid. The route takes you to a panoramic viewpoint above the oasis itself, a vantage most visitors never reach, then down to the dunes where sandboarding happens. This is chest-sliding, not a board sport requiring balance or technique. You lie flat and slide down the face of the dune, feeling the speed and the sand. Protective goggles and a helmet come with you.
After sandboarding, the driver takes you to a wooden table set up on the desert floor, complete with a handwoven rug, pillows, and decorative headlights. You sit there with your group and toast with a bottle of sparkling wine, dried fruits, raisins, and chips. The table is the moment the expedition becomes celebration: a pause in the dunes to mark the ride itself. Once the toast is done, you return to the office to finish.
The whole outing takes about an hour. You're a passenger throughout, so no driving experience is needed, and the activity suits most fitness levels. A guide speaks English or Spanish depending on your group. Personal accident insurance covers all occupants, and the office has restrooms and parking.

Is this one for you?You ride as a passenger with a professional driver, so no off-road experience or driving skill is needed: ideal if you want the speed and terrain without operating the vehicle yourself. The shared UTV seats multiple passengers, making it a group experience. If you prefer privacy or want to drive, this is not the right option.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English and Spanish.
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
Can I drive the UTV myself, or am I a passenger the whole time?
You ride as a passenger in the UTV with a professional driver at the controls. The driver handles all terrain navigation and off-road operation.
What exactly is sandboarding, and do I need experience?
Sandboarding here means lying on your chest and sliding down the face of the dune: no balance or technique required. The operator provides goggles and a helmet, and it's designed for beginners.
Is the sparkling wine toast included, or do I pay extra?
The sparkling wine, dried fruits, raisins, and chips are included in the experience. You toast at a decorated table in the desert as part of the package.
What's the view like from the top of the dunes above Huacachina?

How long does the whole experience take from start to finish?
The expedition runs about an hour total, from boarding at the office through the dune stops, sandboarding, the desert toast, and your return.
What should I wear, and what protective gear do I get?
