Step-by-step itinerary
Desert UTV ride and stargazing
- Ride modern UTV buggies in desert
- Relax at exclusive desert camp
- Learn about stars with astronomer
- Observe cosmos through telescope
- Night UTV ride back through desert
The experience
You drive a modern UTV buggy (a Can Am Maverick) through the Huacachina desert at night, following professional pilots trained in off-road driving and first aid. The adrenaline comes from operating the vehicle yourself across the dunes in moonlight, not from watching someone else drive. After the ride, the group stops at an exclusive camp set up in the middle of the desert with Andean carpets, wooden tables, soda and snacks.
A specialist astronomer takes over here, walking you through the planets and stars visible from the desert and explaining what you're looking at. You observe the cosmos through a high-powered telescope. The kind of equipment that makes distant objects actually visible, not just theory. The night return to the starting point happens by buggy, so the driving bookends the whole experience.
The operator provides helmets, safety glasses, and personal accident insurance for all occupants. A guide speaks English or Spanish. Parking, bathrooms and a comfortable office for boarding and disembarking are on-site, and public transportation options are available nearby if you need them.

Is this one for you?You operate the UTV yourself rather than riding as a passenger, so this suits anyone who wants to drive the desert rather than watch it pass. The group stays small with professional pilots leading, and the astronomer keeps the pace manageable between the adrenaline and the observation: a balance for travelers who want both thrills and learning in one night.
