The experience

Tacama Vineyard, 25 minutes from Ica, is the starting point. You'll watch a short film on the winery's history, tour the production facilities to see how wine and pisco are made, then taste the different products across both the classic and modern plants. The second stop is Culturpisco, an artisanal winery where the tasting focuses on pisco and wine made with traditional methods. The winery also runs a typical Ica restaurant on-site if you want to eat (lunch is your own cost). Between the two wineries and the oasis, you have about 20 minutes of transfer time.

The Huacachina Oasis is where the pace shifts. After a photo stop at the viewpoint, you get into a buggy for the ride through the dunes. Sandboarding is included, and the timing is set so you're on the sand when the sun drops, which is the main draw of the afternoon. The buggy ride and sandboarding wrap up the day before you're transferred back to your hotel or the bus station.

A guide travels with the group throughout, speaking English or Spanish depending on the booking. Groups stay under 10 people, which keeps the winery tastings and the buggy ride manageable. Children from age 3 can join. Infants ride on an adult's lap. The tour is not recommended for anyone with spinal injuries or cardiovascular concerns, and the buggy ride itself is the physical element to consider.
