The experience
The day starts with pickup from your hotel in downtown Ica or Huacachina, then a 2.5-hour drive to Nasca Airport, 150 kilometers away. Once there, you board a small aircraft for the overflight of the Nazca Lines: a 30–35 minute flight where the pilot circles each geoglyph so you see them clearly from above. The first figure you'll spot is the whale, a marine deity on the east side of the complex. After landing back at Nasca Airport, there's time to use the restrooms and grab drinks before the return journey to Ica.
At 4:00 pm you arrive at Huacachina Oasis, a lagoon surrounded by massive sand dunes just 5 kilometers from Ica's center. If time allows, you can walk around the oasis for photos before heading to La Casa de Bamboo, the tour operator's office there. The dune buggy excursion starts at 4:00 pm. You ride in a tubular buggy across the dunes and get time to try sandboarding, the board sport on sand. The tour is timed to catch the sunset, and by 6:00 pm you're transferred back to your hotel in Ica. The whole day runs 11–12 hours from pickup to drop-off.
Bring a valid physical passport to Nasca Airport. It's mandatory for the flight. The flight schedule can shift due to fog, which is common in the region, but the operator guarantees the flight will take place once visibility clears. Avoid heavy meals before takeoff to prevent dizziness. Passengers over 90–100 kg may face an extra charge for excess weight on the aircraft. Children from age 4 can join. Those under 4 are not permitted on the flight.

Is this one for you?The 11–12 hour commitment means this tour fills most of your day, leaving only early morning or evening free. Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English and Spanish.
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Child (4 to 17 years). Children under 4 can't be included in the booking.
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What exactly are the Nazca Lines and what will I see from the air?
The Nazca Lines are massive geoglyphs (geometric designs and animal figures) etched into the desert floor near the town of Nazca. From the aircraft, you'll see them clearly as the pilot circles each design. The whale, a representation of a marine deity, is the first figure you'll spot on the east side of the archaeological complex.
How long is the flight over the Nazca Lines?
The flight lasts 30–35 minutes. You'll depart from Nasca Airport, which is close to the town of Nasca, and return to the same airport to rest and refuel before the drive back to Ica.
What happens if fog delays the flight?
Fog is common in the Nazca region and can delay flights, but the operator guarantees the flight will take place once visibility clears. You won't lose the experience. If delays push the schedule, the dune buggy excursion is rescheduled to the last shift around 5:00 pm, so you still catch the sunset.
Can I do both the dune buggy and sandboarding, or do I choose one?
You do both. The dune buggy excursion includes time riding in a tubular buggy across the dunes and practicing sandboarding, the board sport on sand. The tour is paced to end at sunset, giving you views of the dunes lit by the fading light.
What's included in the price, and what do I need to bring?
Pickup from your hotel, all transport between Ica, Nasca Airport and Huacachina, the flight, the dune buggy ride and sandboarding are included. You must bring a valid physical passport. It's mandatory for the flight. Food and drinks are not included, though the operator's office at Huacachina has a restaurant and restrooms.
