The experience
The lodge sits deep in the Tamshiyacu-Tahuayo National Reserve, far enough from Iquitos that the wildlife stays wild. You arrive by a combination of land and river transfer (three hours total from the airport or your hotel), then settle in for two nights while the guide takes you out on foot, by canoe and by boat. The first afternoon brings your first jungle walk to meet the pygmy marmoset, the world's smallest monkey, followed by a night boat excursion hunting for caimans and nocturnal birds along the water.
Day two centers on the two lakes and the river itself. You swim in the Amazon to see pink and grey dolphins, then spend the afternoon spotting the Victoria Regia, the world's largest aquatic plant, and iguanas before fishing for piranha. The sunset happens at Sapote Lagoon. After dinner, a night walk takes you in search of tarantulas and large frogs, the kind of thing that only happens when you're staying in the forest rather than commuting to it. Day three moves upriver by boat to look for bird and monkey species, includes a visit to the village of San Juan de Yanayacu, and leaves time to swim in the Yanayacu River by kayak or simply rest in a hammock before the return journey to Iquitos.
The guide speaks both English and Spanish. Meals and accommodation at the lodge are included. The lodge has no internet or WiFi, which is part of why the wildlife is there. A minimum of two people per booking is required. Carry a backpack for the days out, and leave larger luggage in lodge storage.

Is this one for you?Book the single room if you're traveling alone or prefer your own space. Choose the double room for a partner or to share the cost. Either way, the remote location and the fixed three-day schedule mean you're fully immersed in the rainforest routine (no day trips back to the city, no rushing between sites), which is why the wildlife sightings are reliable.

What's the Muyuna Lodge actually like to stay in?
Muyuna Lodge is an eco-lodge in the heart of the rainforest, 87 miles upriver from Iquitos in the Tamshiyacu-Tahuayo National Reserve. It has no internet or WiFi, which keeps the setting remote and the wildlife undisturbed. You stay two nights there, with all meals provided.
