The experience
The tour runs three days and two nights at Lupuna Lodge, a jungle base near Iquitos. Day one starts with a typical local drink upon arrival, then a daytime walk through the rainforest to observe flora and fauna, followed by a night walk to spot insects, tarantulas, and frogs. Day two begins before dawn for bird-watching, including the Shansho-hoatzin, then returns for breakfast before a visit to a Yagua settlement where you learn their way of life and can make crafts. Lunch is a local meal, and the afternoon is spent listening to jungle sounds at sunset. Day three focuses on the Amazon River: you'll see the Victoria Regia, the world's largest aquatic plant, then visit a riverside family's property where sloths, monkeys, turtles, and anacondas are kept. Lunch happens before the return to Iquitos in the afternoon.
All activities during your stay are included in the price. A live guide fluent in English or Spanish leads the tour, and accommodation at Lupuna Lodge covers all three nights. The lodge provides meals and assigns rooms upon arrival. This is a small-group format built around personalized service rather than large tour buses, which means the pace and stops adjust to the group's interests within the itinerary structure.
