The Experience

The day starts with pickup in an air-conditioned vehicle and a boat ride up the Chagres River to the Embera settlement deep in the rainforest. Once you arrive, a guide leads you through the forest to a waterfall — the walk is moderate, and you'll have time to swim. The community then welcomes you back to see how they live: their homes, the way they prepare food, the dances and customs that shape their daily life.

Lunch is cooked in the traditional indigenous style and shared with the group. Afterward, you can browse and buy handicrafts directly from the artisans who made them — a chance to support the community and take home something made by hand. The boat ride back down the river closes the day, and you return to your pickup point by late afternoon.

Bring a swimsuit, towel and a change of clothes for the waterfall; comfortable walking shoes or trekking shoes work best on the forest path. Sunscreen and a hat are essential, and the operator provides bottled water throughout the day.
