What’s included

Your day includes private hotel pickup (or from Hawana resort, airport or seaport), bottled water throughout the journey, an air-conditioned vehicle for comfort between stops like Sultan Qaboos Mosque and Haffa Souq, plus plenty of time at Fazayah Beach for swimming before returning in the evening.

“Don’t forget to smell the frankincense before you buy it,” our driver, Khalid, grinned as he handed me a chunk of pale resin at Haffa Souq. I tried, but honestly I think my nose was still waking up. The market was already humming—women in bright scarves haggling over spices, a kid darting past with a bag of dates. It’s not just shopping here; it felt more like wandering through someone’s memories. Khalid knew half the vendors by name and waved us over to taste something sweet and sticky (I never caught the name, but it was good). I kept thinking how different this was from the quiet back home.

The Sultan Qaboos Mosque is massive—white marble that almost glows in the morning sun. There’s a kind of hush inside that made me slow down, even though I was worried my scarf would slip off. Khalid explained the dress code gently (I’d packed long sleeves but still felt underdressed next to everyone else). We didn’t stay too long—just enough to soak up the cool air and look at those arches. Then we were back on the road again, windows down because even with AC you want to smell the sea when you get close.

The drive west out of Salalah gets wild fast—one minute it’s city traffic, then suddenly mountains. Jabal Al Qamar is all sharp turns and cliffs dropping into blue nothingness. I’m not great with heights, so I tried not to look down too much. Somewhere along there we stopped for a view of Hidden Beach—just a flash of white sand way below—and then kept going until finally Fazayah Beach opened up under us. The sand squeaks under your feet (weirdly satisfying) and there’s this salty breeze that makes everything taste better. Swimming there felt like rinsing off every bit of city noise.

I didn’t expect to see frankincense trees growing wild on the hills above Fazayah—Khalid pointed them out and snapped a twig for us to smell (earthy, sharp). On the way back we hit Mughsail Beach for one last walk and watched water shoot out of blowholes near Marneef cave—kids shrieking every time the spray went high. It all blurs together now: sunlight on wet rocks, sand stuck between my toes, Khalid laughing when I tried to pronounce “Mughsail” right (I definitely didn’t). Still think about that beach sometimes when things get noisy.
