The experience
If you have a full day free in Salalah and no rental car, this tour strings together five natural sites across West Salalah's coastline and mountains in one itinerary. You start at Eftiqout Cliff, a vertical rocky face 40 km west of the city overlooking the Indian Ocean, then drive to Mughsail Beach for soft sand and a short walk. A five-minute drive brings you to Marneef Cave and the blowholes: natural fountains where water surges through limestone cavities and shoots into the air, with a café nearby if you want to sit with coffee and ocean views. The route then turns inland to Fazayah Beach, a quieter shore tucked below 700-meter mushroom-shaped cliffs, before climbing to Shaat sinkhole near Rakhyut Town, 82 km from Salalah city.
Shaat is the highest stop on the tour, sitting at around 1000 meters above sea level on a limestone plateau. The sinkhole itself is a karst cavity with three walking tracks and three viewing galleries. From the edge you can hear different bird calls echoing up from the opening. The drive to reach it passes through high cliffs with views back toward the Indian Ocean, and the final viewing point catches the sunset over the Shaat countryside. The tour ends as light fades, so plan for a late return to your hotel.
Transport is either a 4WD for groups of 1–5 or a minivan for 6–8 travelers, both air-conditioned. Your guide speaks English and Arabic, handles the driving, and provides bottled water throughout the day. You'll need to carry a copy of your travel ID because the route crosses a security checkpoint. The itinerary is fixed, so all five stops are included in every departure. There is no option to skip sites or shorten the day.

Is this one for you?The 6- to 8-hour commitment means you leave early and return late, so this tour fills a full day and leaves little room for other activities in Salalah. If you have only a half-day free or want to combine sightseeing with time in town, look for a shorter excursion instead.

What are the blowholes at Mughsail Beach, and how do they work?
The blowholes are natural fountains located near Marneef Cave, a limestone cavity formation at the base of Marneef mountain. The sound of the gushing water adds to the experience, and a café overlooks the site if you want to rest.
