Step-by-step itinerary
Explore Salalah East nature and culture
- Visit Wadi Darbat waterfalls
- See baobab trees in Dhofar
- Experience Anti Gravity Point
- Enjoy panoramic view at Jebel Samhan
- Relax at Taqah beach and cliff
The experience
Four hours takes you through the nature and culture of Oman's eastern coast. The tour starts with Wadi Darbat, where waterfalls and rock formations draw the area's wildlife to the riverbed. From there you climb to Jebel Samhan, the highest point in the Dhofar region, where the altitude often places you above the clouds and opens a panorama across the landscape.
You'll see baobab trees (African species that have taken root in Oman) with some specimens estimated at over 300 years old and fewer than 200 remaining in the region. The tour includes a traditional Omani lunch and a stop at Taqah, a historical coastal town with a white-sand beach and a cliff overlooking the water. The Anti Gravity Point, a hill between Mirbat and Salalah, rounds out the afternoon: a car placed in neutral gear will roll uphill at speeds up to 35 km/h, a phenomenon with no settled explanation.
Your guide is a local who knows the history and landscape beyond what guidebooks cover and will answer questions and adjust the route to match your interests. The vehicle is air-conditioned. Bottled water and coffee or tea are provided.
