You meet at 8am (or 9am in summer), and the route starts climbing out of Bergen almost immediately. Fifteen minutes in, you stop at Dale Village for coffee and a toilet break, then the landscape opens up. Tvindefossen appears without warning—116 meters of water falling straight down a cliff face, fed by the Kroelvi stream, and there's a local legend attached to it that the guide will mention. You get 15 to 20 minutes to stand there and feel the spray.

By midday you're in Gudvangen, at the end of the Nærøyfjord, where the Viking Village of Njardarheimr sits tucked between massive valley walls. A guide takes you through a 45-minute walk of the reconstructed settlement—you see how Vikings built, what they ate, how they worked. It's not a museum behind glass; you wander the buildings, handle tools, hear stories about their boats and journeys. After that, you have time to grab lunch in the village before heading to the fjord.

The Nærøyfjorden cruise is two hours on a vessel designed with large windows and an open top deck. The fjord is narrow—steep valley sides rise 1,800 meters above you, with waterfalls dropping straight into the water and snow-capped peaks in the distance. The ship arrives in Flåm around 2:30pm (timing shifts by season), and you have between 30 minutes and two hours to walk around the village, depending on when your train leaves. Flåm is small, about 400 people, and has been a tourist stop for over a century.

Then comes the Flåm Railway—one hour climbing from sea level to 867 meters at Myrdal station. The track runs at a 5.5% gradient for 80% of the journey, cutting through 20 tunnels and alongside the Rallar Road with waterfalls and sheer mountainsides visible from your seat. At Myrdal you change trains onto the R40 Bergen service, which takes you back down to Bergen station. You arrive between 6:17pm and 9:33pm depending on the season—the summer schedule keeps you on the train longer, arriving after dark.
