The experience

Your driver-guide picks you up from your Bergen hotel or cruise port and heads south toward Hardangerfjord. The first stop is Bratte waterfall, followed by Steindalsfossen. A 50-meter fall you can walk safely behind, a rare chance to stand dry while the water crashes around you. From there you drive to the ferry at Tørvikbygd for a scenic crossing to Jondal and onward to Odda, where you board a cruise that carries you up the fjord to Lofthus, framed by steep mountains and the water's edge.

After the cruise, your guide drives you to the Hardanger Nature Centre (entry at your own cost), an exhibition space spread across three floors covering the region's flora, fauna and geology, with a 20-minute panoramic film shot from a helicopter. Then comes Vøringsfossen, one of Norway's most iconic waterfalls. You walk the platforms around it, photograph the gorge below, and have time for a break. A stop at Hardanger Bridge follows, where you step out at the viewpoint to see the span itself. The return to Bergen takes 2.5 hours by road.

The tour is private, so the pace and timing are yours. The driver-guide handles all navigation and ferry logistics. Winter runs October through mid-April with a lower price because the cruise does not operate those months. Infants travel in a pram or car seat. Children must be with an adult.

Is this one for you?At 8 to 9 hours, the tour fills most of a day but leaves your morning free if you arrive early or your evening open after return. Winter bookings (October through mid-April) cost less because the fjord cruise does not run, though the waterfalls and bridge remain accessible by road.
