The experience

The tour starts with hotel pickup and heads up Queen Street, the main spine of the city centre, where you pass the iconic buildings and mix of shops and CBD offices that define central Auckland. From there it moves through Ponsonby, a historic suburb known for its older architecture, before crossing the Auckland Harbour Bridge to the North Shore. Once on the North Shore, you walk on Devonport's white sand beach with views across the Waitemata Harbour (the Maori name means "sparkling waters"), toward Rangitoto Island, a volcanic cone you'll see from multiple vantage points during the morning. There's time here for coffee at your own cost before the group heads up to Mt Victoria, a dormant volcano rising 87 metres above Devonport.
