The Experience

The day starts with pickup from your Auckland CBD hotel and a drive to the Harbour Bridge and Westhaven Marina, the Southern Hemisphere's largest yacht marina with nearly two thousand berths. From there the route heads east through Mission Bay and Tamaki Drive, stopping at Bastion Point for views across the Hauraki Gulf and back toward the city skyline, then Achilles Point, which overlooks the Waitemata Harbour and the Gulf Islands. The afternoon swings west across the bridge to Devonport on the North Shore, where Victorian suburbs and views back to central Auckland frame the crossing.

The wine tasting happens at two of Kumeu Wine Country's award-winning vineyards, where you taste a range that includes Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot Cabernet, Pinot Gris, Rosé and Port. Lunch is on your own at one of the stops along the way—Mission Bay has cafes and restaurants, or you can grab something at the vineyard. The minibus stays temperature controlled throughout, with complimentary water and refreshments on board.

The final stop is Muriwai, the black sand beach on Auckland's west coast where the Tasman Sea swells in and the landscape stretches to the horizon. It's a place to walk barefoot on the sand and feel the raw power of the coastline. Between September and April, the Gannet Colony nests there and is part of the walk, though it is not guaranteed outside the peak season. The tour ends with a return to your Auckland hotel.
