The Experience

The trek starts with an eight-hour drive north from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi village, crossing into Rasuwa district and passing views of snow-capped peaks along the way. From there, the walking begins—six hours the next morning to Lama Hotel, crossing the Langtang River and climbing through dense forest into a clearing where the lodge sits. The route follows the river upstream through gorges and forested terrain, gaining altitude gradually over the next two days to reach Langtang Village at 3,430 meters, where tree-lined views open toward the Langtang Lirung peaks.

A short three-hour walk on day five brings you to Kyanjing Gompa, the trek's main destination, where the valley widens and an array of peaks encloses the settlement. You spend a few nights here before reversing the route downhill—six hours back to Lama Hotel, then five hours to Syabrubesi. The final day is an eight-hour drive back to Kathmandu. Throughout, you stay in tea houses on a lodge basis, drink three cups of hot beverage daily, and eat seasonal fruit. Your guide carries a medical kit and holds a government license; the trek includes the Langtang National Park permit and TIMS card (Trekking Information Management System), so the paperwork is handled before you start.

The moderate difficulty and gradual terrain make this a manageable introduction to trekking in Nepal, even if you've never done a high-altitude walk before. Children from age two are welcome. Transport is by local sharing jeep, and you can arrange a porter or private jeep as an option at checkout if you want to lighten your load or travel independently.
