The Experience

If you land in Kathmandu and have a morning free before heading elsewhere, this tour fits into a single departure window. The helicopter picks you up from your hotel or the airport and flies you directly to the tarmac, skipping the drive to an airstrip. From there, the route climbs northeast over the Kathmandu Valley—green hills, villages, farms and gorges spread below—and the peaks grow larger as you gain altitude. By the time you reach Pheriche, the landing zone on the approach to Base Camp, you are already seeing the high mountains: Everest itself, Nuptse, Lhotse, Choyu, and the smaller summits like Ama Dablam and Island Peak.

The second leg circles the Base Camp area and Kalapathar, the vantage point where Everest dominates the view. The massive Khumbu Ice-Falls and glaciers fill the frame, and the guide points out the 8000-meter peaks surrounding the world's highest mountain. This is the heart of the flight—the reason you booked it. After roughly an hour in the air around the peaks, the helicopter descends to Everest View Hotel, where you land and spend 40 minutes on the ground. Breakfast is not included, but the hotel serves it; you can order and eat while standing at altitude, or simply walk around the property and take photographs. The return flight retraces the route back to Kathmandu.

The tour includes helicopter insurance and a private vehicle to and from the airport or your hotel. A live guide travels with you and speaks English, Spanish, Italian or German. Children from age 5 can fly. The national park entrance fee is paid separately by you at the time of the flight, and any drinks or additional meals are your own cost.
