The experience
Lukla is where the trek begins: a mountain airstrip where the flight lands and the walking starts the same day. From there, the route climbs through forests and suspension bridges to Namche Bazaar, the main Sherpa town in the region, where you spend two days acclimatizing. One of those days includes an optional hike to Syangboche or the Everest View Hotel for early views of the peaks ahead. The pace is deliberate: each day builds altitude slowly enough that your body adjusts before pushing higher.
The middle section moves through Tengboche, where a monastery sits above the valley, then to Dingboche at 4,410 meters. Another acclimatization day here lets you climb Nagarjun Hill for views of Makalu, Lhotse and Cho Oyu while your system settles into the thinner air. From Dingboche, the trek continues to Lobuche and then to Gorakshep, the staging point for Everest Base Camp. You reach the base camp on day eight, stand at 5,364 meters on the Khumbu Glacier, then return to Gorakshep for the night.
Day nine is the summit of the whole trek: an early start to Kala Patthar for sunrise over Everest itself, then a long descent to Pheriche for rest. The final day retraces the route back through Namche Bazaar and Phakding to Lukla, where the return flight waits. An English-speaking guide leads the whole trek; teahouses provide accommodation each night; permits, fees and a first aid kit are included. You bring fitness and the willingness to walk at altitude: food and drinks, plus the flight tickets to and from Lukla, are arranged separately.

Top questions
What's the actual walk like on the days you trek to Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar?
Day eight is the longest push: you trek from Gorakshep up to Everest Base Camp at 5,364 meters on the Khumbu Glacier, then return to Gorakshep the same day. Day nine starts before dawn for the hike to Kala Patthar at 5,545 meters to catch sunrise over the summit, then you descend all the way to Pheriche at 4,371 meters: a full day of up and down at high altitude.
How much time do you spend acclimatizing, and where?
You have two dedicated acclimatization days: one in Namche Bazaar on day three, and one in Dingboche on day six. Both include optional hikes to higher viewpoints so your body adjusts to altitude while you're moving gently rather than resting in the teahouse.
Do you need mountaineering experience or special gear to do this trek?
No mountaineering experience is required, but the operator states you need a high level of physical fitness. The trek is a walking route, not a climb. You follow established paths and stay in teahouses each night. Standard trekking boots, layers and a sleeping bag are the main gear. The guide carries a first aid kit.
What is Namche Bazaar and why do you spend two days there?
Namche Bazaar is the main Sherpa trading town in the Khumbu Valley, sitting at 3,440 meters. You reach it on day two, then spend day three there to let your body adjust to the altitude before climbing higher. The town has shops, lodges and views of the surrounding peaks.
Are meals and the return flight included in the trek price?
The trek includes accommodation in teahouses, an English-speaking guide, all permits and fees, and a first aid kit. Food and drinks during the trek are not included, nor are the flight tickets to Lukla and back. You arrange those separately.
Does the trek start with a flight, and how does that work?
Yes, day one is a flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, one of the world's shortest commercial airstrips. The flight lands and you begin trekking the same day with an easy walk to Phakding. The return flight departs Lukla on day ten after you trek back down from the higher camps.
