The experience

The tour starts with hotel pickup in an air-conditioned vehicle and moves through Tangier's religious and royal landmarks: the Mohammed V Mosque, Marshan Palace, and the Kasbah itself, where Sultan Moulay Ismail built his palace and gardens overlooking the city. From there, the route heads west to Cape Spartel, 12 kilometers away, a promontory 1,000 feet above sea level at the entrance to the Strait of Gibraltar, where the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea meet. Below the cape lie the Caves of Hercules.

Perdicaris Park, a 70-hectare green space in the Rmilat neighborhood, comes next: the site of the 1904 Perdicaris Incident and a place to breathe before the beach. At Achakar beach you ride a camel, then return toward the old city. The Medina portion is where the day slows: you walk the narrow streets past traditional craft shops, textile stalls and small galleries, with your guide steering you toward genuine work and negotiating prices. A panoramic terrace in the Medina offers Moroccan food and views back over the old city.

The tour also includes the Kasbah Museum of Mediterranean Cultures and the Jardin de la Mendoubia, a green space near Place du 9 Avril 1947. One stop is the first American public property outside the United States, a diplomatic landmark most visitors miss. WiFi is available on board, and the vehicle is wheelchair accessible.
