The experience
The Kasbah sits on a hill overlooking Tangier's old city, built by Sultan Moulay Ismail as a palace and fortress. Your guide walks you through the Kasbah Museum of Mediterranean Cultures, which occupies the palace grounds, then moves into the Medina: the warren of shops, stalls and narrow streets that connect the old city to the new one. You'll have time to shop in the Berber market and the Medina itself, and you'll stop at the Moshe Nahon Synagogue, a heritage site built by a chief of the city's banking families.
Cape Spartel rises about 1,000 feet above sea level at the entrance to the Strait of Gibraltar, roughly 12 kilometers from the city center. The tour includes a camel ride on the Atlantic sandy beach near the cape: a moment most visitors come to Tangier to experience. You'll also visit the Hercules Caves Museum, which sits near the cape and overlooks the water.
Pickup is from your hotel, the cruise port, or an agreed meeting point. The same applies to drop-off. The guide speaks English or Spanish, and the air-conditioned vehicle includes WiFi. Coffee, tea or orange juice is served during the tour. The whole experience runs 4 hours, which leaves the afternoon free if you're arriving by ship or have other plans in the city.
