The experience

The day starts with pickup from your hotel, airport or port, then moves into the Medina. The old quarter that is part of UNESCO's international heritage. Your guide leads you through the tiny streets where locals live and shop, then into the Grand Socco and Petit Socco, the city's main souqs. These markets are where artisans sell rugs, ceramics, shoes and lamps. The guide shares which stalls are worth your time and what the vendors actually make. From there you move to the Kasbah, the historic quarter that inspired artists and writers, and visit the restored Nahon Synagogue, built in the 19th century and reopened as a museum in 1994.

The route then heads north to Cap Spartel, the northwestern tip of Africa, where the Strait of Gibraltar comes into view. The site overlooks a nature reserve and marks the spot where the Battle of Cape Spartel took place in 1936. From there, Achakar Beach is a short drive: a stretch of coastline where the Atlantic meets the Mediterranean, with dramatic cliffs and deep water. This is where the camel ride happens: you walk the beach on camel, then have time to stand on the sand and take photos or simply breathe. The pace here is slow and built for comfort, not speed.

The Caves of Hercules, 14 kilometers south of the city, close out the tour. The cave system is known for both its geology and its mythological ties: the entrance frames a natural rock arch that opens onto the ocean. The museum explains the site's history.
