The experience

The tour leaves Errachidia at 2pm and takes two hours to reach Merzouga. A short stop at a panoramic viewpoint into the Ziz Valley gives you time to photograph the landscape before continuing to the desert. Once you arrive, a camel trek starts at 5:30pm and takes about an hour to reach the camp deeper in Erg Chebbi, timed so you watch the sunset from the dunes. A desert scarf is provided for each person, and sandboarding is available near the camp if you want to play on the dunes while the light lasts.

Your accommodation is a private luxury tent with its own bathroom, shower and toilet. Dinner is a Berber meal served around a campfire with traditional music. In the morning, you wake to watch the sunrise over the sand dunes, then shower and eat a Berber breakfast before the return journey. You can ride camels back or take the camp's 4WD vehicle. Your luggage is transported separately by the camp's jeep so you don't carry it. Free WiFi and phone charging are available at the camp.

The drive back to Errachidia takes two hours. Your private driver drops you at your hotel or airport, completing the tour by late afternoon. A local guide who speaks English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and other languages travels with you throughout.

Is this one for you?The overnight format means you leave Errachidia in the afternoon and return by late the next day, so it fits a two-day window without eating into a full third day of your itinerary. If you have only a few hours in the region, this tour won't work. If you have two days to spare, it uses them efficiently.
