The experience

The tour leaves Errachidia at 3pm and heads southeast toward the Merzouga dunes. On the way, you stop in the Ziz valley to photograph the landscape from the road. After two hours of driving, you arrive at the edge of the sand dunes where your camel and guide are waiting. The ride itself lasts about two hours: one hour out across the dunes to a vantage point where you watch the sunset, then one hour back to the starting point as the light fades. Between the outbound and return rides, you have time to sit with the quiet of the desert and take photographs while the sun moves toward the horizon.

Your driver brings you back to Errachidia afterward, another two hours, and drops you at your hotel. The whole day runs about seven hours from pickup to return. Private transport is included both ways, so you're not sharing a vehicle or waiting for other groups. You get a desert scarf to wear against the sand and sun, bottled water for the ride, and a guide who speaks English, Spanish or French depending on your preference.
