The palace was built between 1894 and 1900 in Alaoui style and sits within an eight-hectare garden, a scale that makes clear what wealth looked like in that era.

From there, you walk into Ben Youssef Madrassa, a Quranic school rebuilt in the 1560s where around 800 students once memorized the Koran. The zellij tilework, stucco plasterwork and carved wood show the same craftsmanship you saw in the palace, but the space itself is tighter, more intimate—built for study rather than display. The guide then takes you through Souk Semmarine and Souk El Attarine, where leather workers sit at their benches and the air shifts from the smell of hides to the scent of spices and perfumes.
