What’s included

Your day includes air-conditioned transport with a professional driver, hotel pickup if needed, and plenty of time at each stop—from wandering Volubilis’ ancient stones to exploring Meknes’ city walls—before returning comfortably to Fes in the evening.

We almost missed our ride because I couldn’t find my other shoe (classic), but our driver just grinned and waited outside the Fes riad like he’d seen it all before. The city was barely awake—just a few cats and that early bread smell drifting from a side alley. Once we got going, the road out to Volubilis felt longer than I expected, but there’s something about watching olive groves slide past that settles you in for the day.

I’d seen photos of the Roman ruins before, but standing there—actually seeing those mosaics up close—was different. There’s this one with dolphins that looked almost new if you squinted, and our guide said the Romans believed dolphins protected travelers. He laughed when I tried to say “Volubilis” in Arabic (I definitely butchered it). The place was quiet except for a couple of storks clacking on top of a broken column. It smelled like warm stone and wild thyme—never realized ruins could have a scent.

Moulay Idriss was next, all whitewashed houses stacked up a hill. We stopped for mint tea at this tiny café where the owner’s daughter peeked around the door and then disappeared giggling. Our guide pointed out the shrine where locals come to pray—I didn’t go in, but people seemed to move slower here, like time stretched out differently. Lunch was simple bread and olives; nothing fancy, but honestly perfect after walking in the sun.

Meknes surprised me most. Those city gates are massive up close—Bab Mansour looks like something out of a storybook, but with chipped tiles and faded paint that makes it feel real. We wandered through the old stables (still smelled faintly of hay) and saw locals chatting near Hedim Square. By then my feet were tired, but I didn’t really want to leave yet—you know? The drive back to Fes was quiet except for someone softly singing along to the radio. I still think about that view over Moulay Idriss when the light shifted gold for just a minute.
