The drive out of Fez passes through Ain Lah, the Royal family farm, Zagotta, and Dam Achahad, with stops along the way to take in the landscape and photograph the Rif mountains. You arrive at Volubilis, a preserved Roman city where your guide points out the Arch of Caracalla, the Basilica and the Capitoline Temple, explaining the history and layout of the settlement. After the guided portion, you have free time to walk the ruins at your own pace.

Next is Moulay-Idriss, the town built by Moulay Idriss himself. The interior is open to Muslims only, but you get a clear view of the hallways and the layout from outside, which gives a real sense of the place. After lunch, you visit the 17th-century Royal Palace walls with their monumental gates.
