The Experience
The jeep leaves Taghazout at 8am or Agadir at 8:30am and heads south. The first stop is a pottery site where you see techniques that trace back to the Andalusian era—a working example of how the craft has held its shape across centuries. From there the route drops to Sidi Rabat beach, where fishermen live in caves carved into the cliffs; you walk the secluded beach and can look inside the caves where they live and work.
The drive then follows a rally road across sand dunes and sandy terrain running along the Atlantic Ocean. At the Massa River, a quick stop gives you a chance to spot migratory birds if conditions are right—pink flamingos, hermit ibis, or bald ibis move through the area. The jeep also passes the Tiznit medina, where you have time to walk the old city and browse handmade Berber silver jewellery if you want to break up the drive.
Lunch happens in a local Berber house in the Atlas foothills: tajine and couscous, seasonal fruit, and mint tea, all included. After eating, you have free time on the small Sahara dunes to photograph and rest. A camel ride is available here but costs extra and is optional. On the return, the route passes the Youssef Ben Tachfine reservoir for a panoramic view from the hilltop before heading back to your hotel.
