The Experience
The day starts with flamingos along the Souss River, a quiet sanctuary where you watch the birds before the jeep heads inland toward the dunes. From there the route moves through the golden landscape of Mini Sahara near Tifnit, where the desert rolls down to meet the Atlantic. Along the way you stop at Rasmouka, a Berber village where you see traditional pottery-making by hand and get a sense of how people live in the region. The driver navigates the Petite Atlas Mountains and the Desert de Rasmouka, each stretch revealing a different side of the landscape.
Lunch happens at a local Berber home—a traditional tajine and couscous meal with mint tea—which is where the cultural part of the tour settles in. Before or after, depending on the day's flow, you visit a cooperative that shows how argan oil and cactus honey are made using methods that have stayed the same for generations. The coastal stops at Sidi Rbat and Plage Sidi Wassay break up the desert time, and a pause at the Youssef Ben Tachfin Dam gives a panoramic view of the water and the surrounding terrain. The drive follows the Chemin de Rallye 2014, a scenic route that ties the whole route together.
If you want extra adrenaline, sandboarding on the dunes is available as an optional add-on (request it before the tour starts). The vehicle is modern, air-conditioned, and the guide speaks your language for the full eight hours, so navigation and context don't get lost in translation.
