The experience

First thing you’ll notice is the salty breeze: way different from the city air. Our driver picked us up right on time, and after a quick chat about the day, we left Agadir behind. The road got quieter as we passed tiny roadside stalls selling oranges and mint. There’s this moment when the asphalt turns to dust and you realize you’re really out there. We bumped along coastal tracks in a sturdy 4x4, windows down, wind whipping in with that dry desert smell mixed with sea spray.

Somewhere near the cliffs, we met a local fisherman who waved us into his cave home. It’s not something you see every day: a kettle bubbling over coals, mugs of sweet mint tea passed around while he told stories about storms and lucky catches. The cave was cool inside, even though outside the sun was already heating up the rocks. Later, our guide steered us through the Anti-Atlas foothills (those red mountains look almost painted at sunset), and stopped at a lookout above Youssef Ben Tachfine dam. You could hear birds calling over the water far below.

Lunch was at a family house nearby: flatbread still warm from the oven, grilled fish caught that morning, tomatoes with olive oil. I remember hearing laughter from kids playing outside while we ate. On the way back, we crossed a patch of small desert (sand underfoot but not endless like the Sahara), and watched camels grazing in the distance.
