The Experience
The drive out of Agadir takes an hour, and you spend it watching the landscape shift from the coast toward the Taboga dunes. When you arrive at a local Berber home, there's no ceremony — just a family who treats you like you belong there. Homemade breakfast and Moroccan mint tea come first, and your guide explains how the Berber culture works around the idea that a guest's comfort is the family's responsibility. It's the kind of meal that doesn't feel staged, and it gives you time to settle before the sandboarding starts.
After eating, you head to the dunes themselves. The sandboards are already there, and the guide walks you through the basics — it's similar to snowboarding, but the sand gives way differently, and the learning curve is gentler than you'd expect. You spend the afternoon on the slopes, and the sea is visible the whole time, which is strange and beautiful; most dunes are landlocked, but these ones sit right where the Atlantic edge meets the sand. The light changes as the afternoon goes on, and by the time you're ready to stop, the sun is low enough that climbing to the top of one of the higher hills makes sense.
The sunset from up there is the part people remember. You're standing on sand that's still warm, the ocean is in front of you, and the light is doing that thing it does for about twenty minutes before it doesn't anymore. There's time to take pictures, to sit, to just look. The drive back to Agadir takes the same hour it took to get there, and you're tired in the way that means you actually did something.
What’s included
Your day includes hotel pickup in an air-conditioned vehicle, a one-hour drive to the Berber family home, homemade breakfast and traditional Moroccan mint tea, transport to the Taboga dunes, sandboard equipment and instruction, time to explore the dunes and photograph the sunset from the hilltops, and the return drive to Agadir. All fees and taxes are covered.
Operated by Amallay Adventures
Is this one for you?Choose this if you want to try sandboarding without renting equipment separately or arranging your own transport to the dunes, and if you're interested in eating with a local family rather than at a restaurant — the home visit is what makes the cultural part real instead of performed.
